Stoneybatter / Smithfield , Dublin 7, Northside

Stoneybatter is an area of many contrasts, with a deeply-rooted Dublin working-class tradition living side-by-side with a more recent influx of new residents into the area. These are younger people residing in new apartment complexes, as well as European, Asian and African immigrants. All this adds atmosphere to an area with a colourful past and what would appear to be a prosperous and exciting future. With the recent housing developments and especially the near-completed Smithfield development right in the heart of the area, this is an up-and-coming area.
There are apartments, semi-detached houses, townhouses, some cottages, some terraced housing and there is a mix of people: low-middle income young families, young professionals, elderly.
Because of its proximity to the centre, rents are higher than you would expect.
