Woluwé-St Lambert and Woluwé-St Pierre

Description

Situated to the east of the city centre beyond Etterbeek, the EU area and Auderghem, the Woluwés provide pleasant, green and affordable suburban living for families with the European School II close by. Of the two, Woluwé-St-Pierre is more popular with the expat community due to its large pre- and post-war family houses with gardens, although stylish apartments are also easy to find in both communes. Both also contain an enviably large proportion of parks and gardens ideal for joggers and children. Woluwé-St-Pierre is home to the stunning Parc de la Woluwé, created around the turn of the 20th century with over 70 hectares rich in trees and plants, and to the picturesque Mellaerts lakes where rowing boats can be hired. Cultural centres in both communes provide programmes of jazz, theatre, dance and cinema as well as celebrating local art, while Woluwé-St-Lambert boasts the Poseidon swimming pool, which also contains an ice and in-line skating rink. Good, varied shopping in Woluwé-St-Lambert can be found along Avenue Georges Henri and in Woluwé-St-Pierre around Place Dumon and Place des Maïeurs, but these are overshadowed by the vast Woluwé Shopping Centre, the city’s largest indoor shopping mall, which caters for both communes and beyond and on Sundays is taken over by a flea market. Travel in the area is easy due to good bus and metro connections, and both communes are easily accessible by car from the city centre.
