Description
Barnes

Barnes is a leafy district with a charming village atmosphere, located directly across the Thames from Hammersmith. The area is popular with young professional families; there are several good nurseries and primary schools, and many large family homes. Central London is easily accessible by train and bus. Pleasant restaurants and cafes line the High Street, where the Womens Institute holds a weekly market selling delicious home-made produce. Barnes is home to the London Wetland Centre, a spectacular landscape of lagoons and marshes where wild birds nest during their migratory journey. Barnes is a much sought after location, with handsome Victorian houses and grand Regency properties overlooking the river. Smaller Victorian cottages and terraces can be found near the High Street, while North Barnes offers less expensive ex-council houses and mansion flats.
