Also known as Segrate, this is a self-contained community which came into existence thanks to ex-prime minister and media magnate Silvio Berlusconi. It is close to Milan’s Linate airport and is a favourite zone for commuters into and out of the city although public transport from here can be a bit of a hike compared with other areas. It is also a centre for expatriates and is the location of one of the city’s main international schools, Sir James Henderson. In recent years it has become famous as the site of the city’s first mosque.
