Blackbird Leys

Lying beyond the Oxford ring road, this one-time council-owned estate has suffered from a poor reputation in the past. The 1980s, box-style terrace housing lack charm, and the presence of numerous high-rise blocks of flats is typical of post war apartment buildings. Yet, due to the recent addition of Greater Leys, Blackbird Leys is currently undergoing something of a revival in the property market. This is still a low income district but it is also becoming increasingly popular for first-time buyers, especially young couples. The bus service in this district is both regular and extensive, allowing residents to commute all over the city. The facilities here are not very good. Shops are mainly convenience stores and the restaurants are take-aways. A primary school and Oxford College of Further Education are located here, and the district's proudest claim is that Oxford United Football.Club lie on its periphery. Thus, typical pubs in Blackbird Leys cater for football fans.
