Piazza Siena horse show

Piazza Siena in Villa Borghese hosts the annual horse show of the same name from 27-30 May. This annual equestrian event is still among the best on the international show jumping circuit and this year it is the second competition of the eight appointments on the international equestrian federation’s (Fédération Equestre Internationale) Nations Cup.

This year the prestigious Potenza SNAI prize is worth €100,000 for any rider and horse who manage to jump the wall higher than 2.30 metres. Six Italians out of a total of 18 riders are competing in the SNAI event on 29 May. Last year the coveted prize was won by British rider Michael Whitaker on Cyber-Space II.

On the last day of the show there is the traditional Carosello dei Carabinieri, when over 100 horses and riders from Italy’s Carabinieri police force bring Piazza Siena to a close with a show of fast formation riding.

This year for the first time Dubarry of Ireland, the famous manufacturer of prestigious country boots and shoes, luggage and marine footwear, is showing at Piazza Siena to mark its entry into the Italian market.
