The Bell Photograph Archive.

17 Oct-18 Dec 2006. Alf Bremer, a German expert in photo digitalisation, editing and layout, leads a workshop in the identification, restoration and editing of selected photographs from the Bell Photograph Archive organised by the Mmofra Foundation in Accra. The Bell Photograph Archive is a collection of black and white photographs of Ghana dating from 1958-1978 taken by American photographer Willis E. Bell who lived in the West African country for over 40 years. Mmofra meaning children is a non-profit organisation for children founded by the late Ghanaian childrens author and cultural activist Efua Sutherland, who worked with Bell on a number of projects including Playtime In Africa (Atheneum, 1962) and The Roadmakers (Ghana Information Services). The Bell Photograph Archive was bequeathed to Mmofra in 1999 and the Accra workshop is part of a project to catalogue and archive its contents. The results will be presented to the public in 2007. Images contained in the archive can be viewed at http://faculty.sfcc.spokane.cc.wa.us/Photography/GhanaWebProject/Welcome.html.

The workshop is supported by the Goethe Institut and is by invitation only.
